Zane is 10! WOW!
Zane turned 10 on his "10 year old" trip with my parents last Sunday. I was a little bummed that we wouldn't be with him on his birthday, until I saw some of the stuff that he got to do! Goodness! I've only gotten snips of the stuff that they have done, but it's sooo cool! They have traveled by car, train, plane, taxi, air boat, and cruise ship. They have interacted with baby alligators and dolphins. They have swam and rode water slides and played laser tag. From what I've heard, they have eaten a LOT of ice cream. What an amazing experience!!
And I couldn't be happier that he's getting to do all that cool stuff. He deserves it!
Zane is, in some ways, a typical middle child. He doesn't really rock the boat much. He does what he's supposed to. He is never in trouble... In other ways, he's more like a small adult. He's got a wicked sense of humor which is often bitingly sarcastic. He is really bright - and his brain works in some unusual ways - so he definitely keeps us on our toes. He's a great combo of bravado and confidence sprinkled with just enough reality to keep him sorta grounded.
Zane is a great role model for Beckett (if only Beck would pay attention...) and at the same time has some really excellent role models of his own to look up to. He's kind of in the birth order sweet spot.
He loves football and lacrosse and is anxious to get back on the wrestling mats. He joined the school's running club and says his favorite subject is math. He changes his mind regularly about what he wants to be when he grows up. He loves - really loves - our "doggos" and spends more time cuddling with them than any of the other boys.
Zane is, basically, a sweet, easy child who I couldn't be more proud to call ours. His name means "Gift from God" and I couldn't agree more. We are so blessed to get to raise him!
I can't wait until he gets back home in a couple of days. I bet he's got hours worth of stories to tell!!!
We've been lazing our way through fall break - and it's been pretty amazing. Nashville was fun too! We all bought cowboy boots - what a hoot! Turns out Spencer looks pretty awesome in a cowboy hat too... The rest of the week we've just been hanging out at the house - trying to keep cool in this ridiculous heat wave. Spencer goes back to football practice tonight and we'll start gearing up for heading back to school again on Monday.
